PELVIC – Thursday (15/08/2019), Mental Revolution KKN students in Banjar Village held outreach about the use of coconut fiber waste.
Coconut fiber in Banjar Village is still used as a basic material for making brooms and doormats. There is only one management industry, namely the property of Mr. Imam Khudori in Sambeng Hamlet.
Themed events “Utilization of Coconut Fiber Waste into Compost Fertilizer” with the title Indonesia Mandiri, it is in the spotlight of farmers. The reason, Apart from being able to meet farmers' needs for organic fertilizer, there is also a large amount of waste from coconut fiber that is wasted.
Coconut fiber derivative products consist of several types, including cocofiber and cocopeat. Both have not been utilized properly. Even though coconut fiber contains many nutrients, including potassium (K), phosphor (P), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), and Sodium (Already) which is suitable for use as organic fertilizer.
By inviting farmer groups, This series of outreach events begins with socializing the benefits of coconut fiber waste and a brief explanation on how to make organic fertilizer from coconut fiber..
After the socialization, it continues with direct practice which is intended to increase the participants' understanding. Apart from the participants looking closely, they also ask questions in between practices.
Finally, the production of organic fertilizer from coconut fiber waste went smoothly. The time required for the fermentation process is approx 15 days so that it can then be applied to plants.
As a demonstration, a rehearsal will be held with one of the RTs in Banjar village. Then apply the fermented fertilizer to the plants in the RT. (Post II Banjar)
