Tulungagung – Kates Village is one of the villages in Kauman sub-district where most of its area is dominated by large areas of rice fields., In Kates village this is where the KKN-VDR Group is located 80 taking place. Even though the pandemic situation does not dampen the students' enthusiasm for being empathetic and caring towards others while continuing to socialize despite the limited distance.
Seeing the large amount of empty land left abandoned and not producing any benefits, the village division took the initiative to create a work program in the form of planting seeds on empty land.. The location for planting has been coordinated with the village and has received approval. Pak Kasun chose the planting location around a reservoir where the soil remains moist so that the seeds can easily survive.

This activity was held on Wednesday, 10 February 2021 which was attended by 4 children representing groups and several village officials who took part in helping. Restrictions on members attending and participating were limited with the aim of ensuring that there were no crowds when carrying out activities..
In this planting activity, the seeds planted are productive types of plants, namely Papaya seeds. Choosing the papaya plant because it is synonymous with the name of the village, namely Kates village where the Javanese name for the papaya fruit is kates. The number of papaya seedlings planted is 100 The fruit is planted in various places so that it is evenly distributed.
Apart from optimizing empty land so that it remains beautiful and green, The main aim of planting seeds is so that the land can have many benefits, Moreover, the seeds planted are papaya seeds so that when they grow up they will bear fruit and can even be cultivated into papaya plantations.. “When these seeds are big, the fruit can be harvested, and anyone can take it," said Mr. Kasur, one of the Kates village officials, Wednesday (10/02/2021).
Optimizing empty land is what should be the current innovation because so far this land has only been used as a place to find grass for animal feed, With this activity, hopefully it can be a perspective for the future and can also be used as plantation land. Don't forget that when planting these seeds, always adhere to strict health protocols, considering that the Covid-19 pandemic has not yet ended.
