Tulungagung, 21 October 2025 — Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung is again holding strategic activities to strengthen the culture of religious moderation on campus and in the community. Located in the Prajnaparamita Building, activity entitled "Dialogue on Inter-Religious Harmony: Peacebuilding and Ecotheology” this becomes a cross-faith meeting space full of meaning and reflection.
Through the title, implied a new spirit to increase the capacity for dialogue between religious communities to a more advanced and substantive level. It is not just a place to share theological views, This dialogue is directed at encouraging real joint action in preserving the environment as a manifestation of universal human values.
Chair of the Center for Religious Moderation at UIN SATU Tulungagung, Dr. Shamsul Umam, explained that this idea was born out of concern about forms of dialogue which had tended to be ceremonial in nature. “We want to present a livelier dialogue format, not 'stale,’ and has social thrust—that is, dialogue that results in collective action,he said.
This idea received full support from the Rectorate and LP2M UIN SATU Tulungagung. The activity was officially opened by Vice Chancellor III, Prof. Syamsun Ni'am, and began with remarks from the Chairman of LP2M, Prof. Drink Naim, which emphasized the importance of making campuses a driving force for interfaith peace.
Present in this forum were representatives from various religions and beliefs, covers Hindu Dharma, Buddha, Kristen, Catholic, and Islam, as well as representatives from autonomous Nahdlatul Ulama organizations such as Muslimat, Fatayat, and Ansor, also among believers. Each figure conveys their views and experiences in treating harmony and maintaining the balance of nature.
Christian Representative, Pdt. Suprapto, specifically called UIN SATU Tulungagung the "Locomotive of religious moderation in East Java" because of its consistency in holding constructive interfaith activities.
This activity marks an important step for UIN SATU Tulungagung in developing the "paradigm"Peacebuilding and Ecotheology” as a foundation for future interfaith dialogue—that religious moderation does not just stop at discourse, but it must result in real work for the sake of humanity and the preservation of the universe.
