Tulungagung — Indonesian Ministry of Religion through the Center for Religious Education and Religious Education Financing (PUSPENMA) emphasized his commitment to producing cadres of Religious Moderation and Ecotheology Activists in various religious educational institutions. This was conveyed directly by the Head of PUSPENMA, Ruchman Basori, when providing training material on Religious Moderation and Internalization of Ecotheology at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah (UIN ONE) Tulungagung, Friday (21/11/2025).
Ruchman said that increasing the capacity of the main actors in religious education—lecturers, guru, kiai, and ustadz—is an important requirement so that they are able to be at the forefront in strengthening religious moderation and mainstreaming ecotheology.
“The capacity and quality of religious education actors must be increased, so that it is ready to become a driver of religious moderation and ecotheology,he stressed.
He added that this training was designed to produce cadres who are capable and skilled in implementing the values of religious moderation and ecotheology in their respective institutions.. The training is a program non-degree which is financed by the LPDP for the fiscal year 2025. Besides that, There is also Islamic Boarding School Multimedia Training and Programs Language and Academic Preparation (LAPP) for prospective awardees of the Indonesia Bangkit Scholarship (BIB) overseas Masters and Doctoral degrees.
UIN SATU Tulungagung has once again been trusted as the organizing university (PTP) Training in Religious Moderation and Internalization of Ecotheology 2025. Apart from UIN SATU, The Ministry of Religion also appointed three other PTKIN, namely UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, UIN Sunan Kudus, and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
This national level training lasted for seven days, on November 19–25 2025, and followed by 60 participants from various provinces, Ministry of Religion work unit, religious college, guru, educational staff, as well as representatives of Islamic boarding schools. The activity was officially opened by the Chancellor of UIN SATU Tulungagung, Prof. Dr. Abd. Aziz, M.A.
In his speech, Prof. Aziz emphasized that Indonesia is a nation rich in religious diversity, culture, and confidence. Because of that, Religious moderation is not an attempt to create new teachings, rather it ensures fair religious practices, balanced, and not mutually exclusive.
“Religious moderation does not mean creating a new religion, but ensure that our way of religion remains fair, proportional, and respect differences,he said.
Further, Prof. Aziz emphasized the importance of ecotheology as a form of human spiritual responsibility as caliph fil ardhi. He illustrates this ecological awareness through simple reflections: from one grain of rice that we eat, there is a long process and the involvement of many hands—something that is often overlooked by the instantaneous generation.
The Chancellor also touched on the concept Religreen, the idea of the Minister of Religion, as a real form of integration of religious values and environmental concern in everyday life.
At the end of his speech, Prof. Aziz expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Religion's PUSPENMA for the trust given to UIN SATU Tulungagung as the organizer of this national training..
