PENJOR, PAGERWOJO – The waste problem is often something that is difficult to control. Basically, this still starts from human self-awareness in protecting the environment. It's not just urban areas that face waste problems, but in rural areas too.
One of them is Penjor Village, Pagerwojo District. This village tends to have a cool climate. So this area is suitable for developing a dairy business. Nevertheless, If this dairy cattle business is not balanced with public awareness to protect the environment, it will cause environmental pollution.
Seeing this, IAIN Tulungagung KKN students held an outreach on livestock waste processing at 25 July 2019, IAIN Tulungagung students collaborate with Kadiri Islamic University and residents of Penjor Village, Pagerwojo District. The activity focuses on socializing the opening of the compost.
The event took place at the RT Head's house. 03 Krajan Hamlet and attended by the Head of Krajan Hamlet, Head of RT. 03 Krajan Hamlet, and residents of Penjor Village, Pagerwojo District.
The series of events began with checking the compost that had been processed, followed by opening the compost from plastic/mulch, and compost packaging. The plan is that the processed compost will be distributed to residents for farming.
Processing livestock waste is one effort that can be taken, to minimize water pollution without disrupting dairy farming. Making wet compost is a breakthrough amidst the lack of knowledge about processing livestock waste.
Making wet compost from dry cow dung which is then mixed with 400 ml EM4, 200 ml Dulcosit, 250 ml drops and water. Then sprinkled with bran or husk ash. Then let it sit for a while 7 up to you 10 day and covered with plastic. This wet compost is not allowed to be exposed to direct sunlight. This wet compost is made by utilizing the development of bacteria that are good for soil and plants.
It is hoped that this compost will also minimize waste, It can also improve soil texture and soil characteristics, increase soil fertility, increase crop yields. It is also hoped that the community will want to develop it, can be used as a valuable village product so that it can increase community income. (Chrisna/Zakia/Aam)
